Property Assessment>
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for assessing and classifying all properties in the Township of Hornepayne and Ontario based on current value assessments. Your property value is shown on your property assessment notice from MPAC and on your annual property tax bill.
Visit MPAC to learn more about understanding the assessment for your property, including:
- Reading your property assessment notice
- Types of property assessment notices
- Comparing property values
- How property values impact property taxes
- How sales affect your property assessment
- The approaches to establish your assessed value
Property re-assessment
MPAC re-assesses property values on a four-year cycle. Values may increase or decrease for a variety of reasons.
The Township does not get additional taxation revenue from re-assessments. The re-assessment is a re-distribution of who pays the municipal tax bill based on the value of the property owned. It has no effect on the overall tax amount collected. Re-assessments only affect the way the tax levy is allocated amongst the various properties and property classes.
AboutMyProperty
AboutMyProperty allows you to learn more about how your property was assessed and the information on the assessed value of your home and neighbouring properties.
MPAC also has a new online School Support Portal through AboutMyProperty! The portal enables residential property owners to add or update their school support designation information.
Questions, concerns and appeals
If you have any questions or concerns, or you believe your assessment is incorrect, contact MPAC for more information. You may ask to have your assessment reconsidered and an adjustment may result. The deadline to file a request for reconsideration (free of charge) is March 31 of the taxation year for which the assessment applies.
If you disagree with MPAC's response to your request for reconsideration, you may also file an appeal with the Assessment Review Board (ARB).
