Disc Golf

Disc golf is a fun way to get active in the Township of Hornepayne. Disc golf is similar to traditional golf but can be played on virtually any terrain with inexpensive, accessible equipment.

Where to play

Visit Cedar Point to play our trial disc golf course.

What to bring

You will have to bring your own discs. The baskets are provided.

How to play

Similar to traditional golf, players try to land discs (similar to frisbees) into baskets on standing poles. The goal is to finish the course in the fewest number of throws. Check out some common disc golf terms and learn more about how to play.

Please be respectful of the game and equipment.

Each hole begins with a tee throw. You must complete tee throws within or behind the designated tee area.

The lie is the spot where your previous throw has landed and where you will make your next throw from. Mark each lie with a mini marker disc or leave the thrown disc on the ground where it landed.

The player with the least number of strokes on the previous hole is the first to tee off on the next hole. After all players have teed off, the player whose disc is farthest from the hole always throws first.

You must make all throws from directly behind the lie. You are allowed a run-up and follow-through after throwing unless the lie is within 10 m of the basket. For any shot within 10 m of the basket, you cannot move past the lie until the disc comes to rest.

A mandatory, or mando, is an intentional obstacle on the fairway such as a tree or pole. You must pass a mandatory on the correct side as indicated by an arrow. If your disc passes to the wrong side of mandatory, either play from the previous lie or from a marked drop zone area and add a one throw penalty.

If any area is visible between your disc and an out of bounds line, then your disc is considered out of bounds. If this happens, you can re-enter up to 1 m in bounds from where your disc crossed over the out of bounds line. Permanent water hazards, public roads, and most park boundaries are almost always out of bounds.
